Born in a small town of northern germany, Roman spent his youth playing with drumboxes and samplers, after he first listened to a track called "If She Only Knew" by Kevin Yost and fell in love with house music. His interest in beat production was soon accompanied by a deep passion for vinyl records, so he started Djing and organizing house partys in his hometown. Via photography Roman later found his way to the visual arts and finished his studies in communication & design in Düsseldorf 2011. During this time he produced the price-winning video "To The Beat" for Desolat (together with Lukas Loss). Not only with this video Roman Tönjes incorporates his passion for electronic music and vinyl records into his visual work. Covering disciplines like animation, photography, graphic design and installation, he currently focuses on just another new and inspiring thing to him as he is doing his master studies at the Exhibition Design Institute in Düsseldorf. Besides his studies, Roman constantly upgrades his photo series of german record shops, which has been shown on many occasions in the last years and signifies his intention to support independent record stores as an important part of our musical culture.
