Following Sebbo’s „Watamu Beach“ and a first album by Loco Dice, comes the latest release from the Düsseldorf label Desolat and new artist Danny Ocean.
‘Lights in My Dark World’ is awash in the kind of fluttering, hissing sea foam grooves that you might have come to expect from this label; as well as all the underhanded drama and subtle retro flourishes befitting the eponymous Frank Sinatra character.
New Desolat artist Danny Ocean is a native of Barcelona and an avid skateboarder, with eclectic influences that include the morbid strains of Brazilian thrash metal, the earliest little fluffy clouds of British electronica, as well as the polished bass lines and classic soul of Stevie or Quincy. ‘Lights in My Dark World’ is a release suitable for an ash-coloured rocky sea promenade. We’re sure it’ll prove invaluable as a slick lull on the dance floors. Surf ‘n’ turf has never felt so beautifully grey.
